Hair extensions come in many styles and types. There are many factors that go into determining which one you should choose. Do you want to add volume, length, or both? Which one is best for your hair type? How long do you want the extensions to last? At BlowBunny, our expert stylists can help you answer these questions and make the right decision.
Here is some information that you should know before deciding which extension is right for you:
Real Hair vs. Synthetic Hair Extensions
At BlowBunny, we use only 100% Remy extensions. These high-quality extensions are made from real human hair collected from a donor. With Remy hair, all the cuticles (the outer layer of the hair) are intact and running in the same direction. This ensures that the extensions remain smooth, tangle-free, and silky. You can treat them just like your own hair. They blend in flawlessly and can be styled, straightened, curled, colored, and blow-dried.
Synthetic hair is usually crafted from very fine synthetic plastic fiber. While these types of hair extensions are manufactured to imitate real human hair, the texture can differ. They generally move differently than real hair. Because of this, they may not blend in with your natural hair as well as human hair extensions. They also cannot be colored or have any heat applied to them. This is because they may melt at higher temperatures, which can make styling your hair a challenge.
How Are Hair Extensions Applied?
Application of hair extensions can be done in different ways depending on if you want them to be semi-permanent or temporary. Other factors include current hair length, natural hair texture, hair type, and color. At BlowBunny, we offer clip-in, tape-in, and beaded extensions.
Clip-in hair extensions are a popular method for temporary use. These extensions come in contoured pieces that are attached to a clip with either fabric or silicone. You can apply or remove clip-in extensions very quickly. They are one of the least damaging options because they do not involve any chemicals, heat, or pressure. Real hair clip-ins can be brushed, washed, conditioned, and air-dried when you are not wearing them. They can also be curled, straightened and colored just like your natural hair.
Tape-in hair extensions are either taped or glued together on either side of your own hair. Unlike clip-ins that can be done at home, tape-ins are typically applied and removed by a professional hairdresser. These extensions are carefully aligned with the roots of your hair and then applied using a tool that heats up the glue. Tape-in extensions are semi-permanent, lasting 4 to 6 weeks. Because they are made with human hair, they can be styled any way you like, as long as you are careful of the roots where the glue or tape is applied. You may need to use special styling products, shampoo, and conditioner that are less harsh or oily to avoid damaging the glue.
Micro-bead hair extensions are generally considered the least damaging of all semi-permanent types because they do not use glue or heat. Small wefts of hair are attached to a tiny silicone-lined bead. This bead is applied to your natural hair and tightened to hold it into place. Beaded extensions last up to three months depending on how well you take care of them. They will need to be combed and moved up as your hair grows.
