What to Know About Maintaining

Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions are an easy and effective way to get the lash look you want with little to no maintenance. The process is simple. You schedule an appointment at our local San Diego studio, come in and tell one of our professional lash artists what you would like, and we take care of the rest. In order to achieve the best look without harming your natural lashes, we apply each synthetic lash individually. While this gives you the longest-lasting look, the lashes will still fall out with your natural eyelashes every 6-8 weeks. In order to maintain long and full eyelashes for as long as possible, you should follow these steps:

Avoid Water for the First 24 Hours

With brand new extensions added to your lashes, it is it important to take extra care of them for the first 24 hours after application. During this time, the lash glue is still not fully dry. The most important precaution to ensure the glue sets properly is to keep your lashes from coming in direct contact with water. This means avoiding showering or swimming in the hours directly following your appointment. If it happens to be a hot, humid day, try to spend as little time outside to prevent any humidity or sweat from coming into contact with your new lashes.

Avoid Too Much Mascara

Say goodbye to your mascara! Your eyelash extensions will create longer and more beautiful lashes than any mascara can. If you feel like you need to wear mascara with your lash extensions, be careful not to apply a heavy coat. Mascara can destroy your synthetic lashes and cause them to fall out. The least harmful mascara for eyelash extensions is one with a water base. Keep in mind that this is different from water-proof mascara. Only apply one coat to the tips of your lashes.

Avoid Oils

Using products with an oil base around your eyes can significantly shorten how long your extensions will last. These products can include face wash, eyeliner, and makeup wipes/remover. Oils can cause your lash glue to break down, resulting in the extensions falling off. You should also avoid makeup remover wipes as any kind of intense rubbing of the lashes can cause both your natural and synthetic lashes to fall out. Keeping your skincare routine oil-free will allow your lashes to last as long as possible.

Eyelash Extension Touch-Ups

The best way to keep your lash extensions looking fresh is to go in for regular touch-ups. Coming in for a touch-up every 2-3 weeks will allow us to fill any uneven spaces that result from your extensions falling out. If you do not routinely come in for a fill-in every 2 or 3 weeks, you risk an uneven look that may require a full new set of lashes to be applied at your next appointment. Touch-ups are the best way to keep your lashes looking their best! At BlowBunny, we offer a Lash VIB (Very Important Bunny) membership that is only $135 a month for 2 fill-ins for our Classic set, $145/month for the Hybrid set, and $155/month for the Volume set. This makes it easy to stay on top of your eyelash extension maintenance.
